TAFE Queensland, East Coast region highly recommends that students have successfully completed year 12, or have successfully completed equivalent studies, or have relevant experience and/or qualifications in work health and safety that indicate likely success in completing the online course.

This program is also funded by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ), there are a number of requirements that need to be met to access this funding. CSQ funded and subsidised courses are for existing, and eligible workers in the building and construction industry. See further information under Relevant Documents.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's East Coast's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.

This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.


This course is delivered online.  Students have up to 12 months to complete from enrolment date. Teacher assistance is provided throughout this training.

Individual circumstances will need to be considered but TQEC anticipates that online learners would likely need to  invest approximately eight to ten hours per week of study (reading, researching, preparing and completing assessments),  for the entire program over a period of approximately 12 months.  Independent learners frequently complete the program inside of the 12 month period.

Important Information

Funding is available for eligible students for the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (online) program.

To be eligible for CSQ funding students must be:

  • an existing worker in the Building and Construction Industry; and
  • have one month or more employment relationship with their current employer. This can be a full-time, part-time or casual contract of employment.

A letter from the student's current employer, confirming the above, must be provided as evidence prior to enrolment.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.


You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
