Course Entry Requirements
It is highly recommended that students have previously completed a Certificate III qualification or have professional experience in events, business, creative industries, hospitality, sport, tourism or travel.

If you are considering a Vet Student Loan for your diploma, you will need to prove your academic suitability prior to enrolment.  Usually a Year 12 or higher level certificate will be sufficient, but there are other ways to prove you meet the eligibility to enrol.  Click here to find out more.  VET Student Loans - Pre-enrolment information

Resources required

Uniform: Students will be required to wear a TAFE Qld East Coast polo shirt and black long trousers. These can be purchased from our recommended uniform supplier, Tuff Stuff Discount Workwear, who will be available the first week of study for fittings and payment. Approximate cost of the shirt is $35 - Please refer to the Uniform and Kit list and the Booklist attached below in the Relevant Documents section.

Industry visits: Students will also be required to participate in industry visits throughout the course.

The course is 12 months in duration and allows new entrants or inexperienced workers the opportunity to fully absorb the required knowledge, and to develop skills over time in the different contexts both in theory and practical skills in a hand on event environment.
Strategies will include blended, theory, online and face to face delivery.  Students will be required to attend 17 hours theory class time and an additional 10 hours a week online and doing study and research in their own time. Additional practical off-site delivery at major events of approximately 50 hours per semester (these events can entail early mornings and evenings).

Placement

Internships:
Each year some amazing internship opportunities arise from our industry partners. These internships will be awarded to students who consistently demonstrated high-quality employability skills throughout their time at TAFE Queensland East Coast and at industry events.

Rising Star Scholarship

Rising Star Scholarship program will be at  the end of November each year, by Centium Software and  awards up to 10 scholarships valued at $1,000 each based both on merit and need.

Requirements to submit a scholar application include:

  • All students of Rising Star taking or completing the course in 2017 are invited to apply!
  • Students must submit an online application
  • Students must submit a 250 word essay about their vision on how technology will change the meetings industry in the next five years
  • Students must submit a paragraph on why they would be a worthy recipient of the EventsAIR Rising Star Scholarship
  • Students must include one recommendation letter from employers or instructors

All students taking Rising Star in 2017 are eligible to apply!

Important Information

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills subsidised price, individuals must;

  • be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school
  • permanently reside in Queensland
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
  • not hold, and not enrolled into, a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training.

Blue Card:  Commission for Children and Young People Act 2000 (Qld) contains a new law to help ensure that people seeking to work with children are suitable. This is called 'the working with children check'. Any person wanting to work in regulated employment, as a paid employee, a volunteer, or a person carrying on a regulated business, will have to fill out a Blue Card application form consenting to a criminal history check prior to his or her appointment or engagement (See ‘Relevant Documents below). Further details can be obtained at the following link for Blue Card Services or by telephone on 1800 688 275 (Free call).  Students will be unable to attend Vocational Placement until they hold a valid Blue Card.  Once enrolled Students need to make an appointment for the Teacher to sight their ID and sign their Blue Card Services for processing and final approval.  It is to your advantage to have a Blue Card before commencing study.

Further Study: This program is a direct articulation pathway into the University of Sunshine Coast Bachelor of Business.

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

The Higher Level Skills Subsidy is a one-off subsidy funded by the Queensland Government that offsets the cost of an eligible Certificate IV or higher courses.

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply

Please note: As part of your enrolment into a Higher Level Skills program you will need to complete a student survey.
