Graphic designers work with typography, graphics and images in a variety of formats ranging from clothing, magazines, web sites, advertising through to branding and packaging. Nearly every business you can think of has some need for a graphic designer. This program will help you develop a well-rounded knowledge about design, marketing, publishing and advertising fully preparing you to pursue a career in any of these fast-paced industries.

This program has been designed to progress and advance your developing skills. In this program you will focus on preparing creative work, both hand rendered and computer generated, suitable for print. You'll learn about all aspects of design including digital graphics, print, pre-press, packaging, drawing, technical and commercial illustration, typography and multimedia creation. In addition you will focus on professional web development. You'll use industry standard software including Content Management Systems and the Adobe Creative Suite software - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver. You'll also learn the professional skills you need to work successfully in any business environment including interpreting briefs, marketing strategies and project management. In your final semester you will learn in an interesting and informative simulated design studio environment to prepare you for life in this industry. You'll also benefit from close industry contact through site visits to professional design studios and guest specialists in class.

Course Entry Requirements

  • It is a mandatory requirement of TAFE Queensland East Coast that students must be able to demonstrate graphic design skills to support learning at Diploma level. These skills and knowledge may have been acquired through personal or work experience, or through formal study.

There is an opportunity to receive a great insight into our program and studio facilities by arranging a tour directly with our Centre for Creative and Digital. During the tour you will be able to meet the teaching team and ask any questions you may have about the program. VET FEE-HELP / FEE-HELP is an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that helps students pay for their education and training, such as associate degrees or bachelor degress. TAFE Queensland East Coast receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshhold.

You're eligible if you:

  • are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa
  • are enrolled in a diploma and above (VET-FEE-HELP) or associate degree or above (FEE-HELP) or full-fee paying course on, or before the census date
  • have not exceeded the VET/FEE-HELP limit

Payment Plan
