Make some noise

TAFE Queensland East Coast delivers quality sound production courses on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland. We train some of the state’s highest quality sound production experts. Our qualified teachers have extensive industry experience and a passion for the sound production industry.  They have the skills and knowledge to guide you as you develop skills to start or extend your career in sound production. We regularly liaise with industry and students to revise and shape our courses to suit changing needs and trends.

This course includes training in studio and live production:

Studio Production

Based in the recording studio and music technology lab at Nambour campus, students learn modern recording techniques and produce quality recordings for musicians. From start to finish, each step is explained, studied and practiced. The studio has a large collection of equipment from the latest gadgets to timeless classics.  Our graduates find employment in a range of sound production roles from radio production to recording facilities – previous students have had songs they produced and recorded on high rotation on Triple J.

Live Production

Based in our on-campus live music venue, students learn to produce sound for weekly live music concerts. Using a range of sound reinforcement equipment and staging items, the ins and outs of concert production are explained and practiced: including loading, setting up and patching-in various P.A. systems, operating digital and analogue mixing desks, wirelessly controlling concert sound mixing consoles using wireless technology and managing stage operations. If you picture yourself in the sound production industry this is the course that will prepare you to move confidently into working in events - from conferences to large festivals. Graduates find employment in numerous roles working for sound production companies locally, interstate and overseas.

How to enrol

 Casey Smith

At TAFE you are trained, not taught!

Probably one of the most important things I'd like to acknowledge about my TAFE Queensland East Coast experience is that it's relaxed and that feeling is a real sort of freedom. At TAFE you are trained, not taught. Going to TAFE is the easiest way to obtain real job skills that employers actually strive for where you’re taught actual methods of how to do something in the industry.

VET Student Loans

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Prior to applying for a VET Student Loan, please ensure that you have read and understood the VET Student Loans Pre-Enrolment Information

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

More information about VET Student Loans.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
