This program targets workers in the water industry looking to establish career options through building a base of technical and industry skills by working in diverse roles and environments. This nationally recognised program will give you the skills to competently and safely work in the water industry.

Specialisation options exist for operators and associated personnel who typically work under direct supervision at fairly basic water and wastewater operations. Entry requirements

Course Entry Requirements
It is a TAFE QLD East Coast mandatory requirement that students must be working in the water industry for entry into this course. Students will be required to submit an evidence portfolio which includes documents supplied from their workplace. A portion of this course is completed online so students must also have access to a computer and internet.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland East Coast's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.

This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.


Online Delivery: Study and assessments are completed online. Students should expect to spend at least 5 hours per week on self-directed study, assessments and submitting work.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.


You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
