Information for EXISTING VET FEE-HELP students

If you are currently accessing a VET FEE-HELP loan and will finish your studies in 2017, you will need to let the Australian Department of Education and Training know if you want to continue to access VET FEE-HELP.

  1. The Department will contact you by February 2017 by email or post with instructions on how you can confirm that you wish to continue to access a VET FEE-HELP loan.
  2. To opt-in you are required to complete and submit an online form to the Department before no later than 31 March 2017 on or before your first census date. You must opt-in before returning to study with TAFE Queensland East Coast to be able to access VET FEE-HELP.
  3. You will need to provide TAFE Queensland East Coast with a copy of your loan confirmation letter from the Department.

If you have not received an email or letter by early February 2017 from the Department of Education and Training, please fill in the enquiry form and select "Requesting passkey" in the "What is your question regarding?" field.

For more information about VET FEE-HELP arrangements for existing students visit the Department of Education and Training website.

Am I still eligible to access VET FEE-HELP?

To be eligible to continue to access VET FEE-HELP you must:

  • have been enrolled in a VET course/s prior to 1 January 2017
  • have already received VET FEE-HELP assistance for units of that course/s (and you must have been engaged in training and had at least one census date before 31 December 2016)
  • remain enrolled in the course/s with your original provider (or with a replacement provider following activation of tuition assurance arrangements).

If you meet these criteria, you will be able continue your studies under the existing VET FEE-HELP arrangements for units with census dates to 31 December 2017.

You will still need to opt-in by letting the Australian Government know that you wish to continue to access the VET FEE-HELP loan.

Census Date

The census date is the most important date for you to know about. You must submit your Request for VET FEE-HELP Loan form 14 days before the census date.

The census date is the last day you can withdraw your enrolment without incurring the cost or debt for that unit.

The census date varies across qualifications. You can access the Census Date on the relevant Fee Schedule on your qualifications' course brochure.

Schedule of Fees

The Schedule of Fees provides details about Units of Study, Census Dates and Course Fees for VET FEE-HELP approved courses. The schedule of fees are located on each relevant course listing.

What do I have to pay?

VET FEE-HELP loans are interest free. However, your loan debt will be indexed each year based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

There is no application fee, although full fee-paying (fee-for-service) students pay a 20% loan fee. The loan fee doesn't apply to students enrolled in a Queensland Government subsidised course.

For full details on what you will need to pay can be found on the TAFE Queensland Website
